Experience the epic saga of Goku, the famous Saiyan, in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. This action-RPG game allows you to relive the thrilling battles and adventures from the beloved anime series. Step into the shoes of your favorite fighters, engage in intense battles, make new friends, and explore various worlds.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot may be classified as an RPG, but it offers limited customization options. It follows a preordained story, guiding you on which character to play and when to upgrade their stats. While it lacks full exploration, the game features open areas where you can embark on side quests to break the monotony of the linear storyline.
There are various tasks to undertake, including racing, collecting Dragon Balls, fishing, hunting, fighting dinosaurs, and engaging in random battles. However, most of these activities offer minimal rewards, such as temporary stat boosts or cooking ingredients. The game's leveling system quickly renders these boosts redundant, making the side tasks primarily for entertainment purposes.
Although the game restricts deviation from the main storyline, it does provide the opportunity to visit iconic locations from the anime series, such as Orange City, Goku's home, Yamcha's hideout in the desert, and Gohan's high school.
As expected, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot features intense battles. However, the combat mechanics are closer to Dragon Ball Xenoverse than Dragon Ball FighterZ. The game adopts a fighting game-style combat system with over-the-shoulder action and simple controls. While you can execute a variety of attacks, basic melee attacks and specific explosive attacks are the most effective.
Despite the enjoyable combat, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot suffers from several issues. One major problem is the enemies' frequent use of Super Armor, which allows them to withstand high damage techniques without flinching. Additionally, certain attacks trigger cutscenes that momentarily restrict your movement and cancel special attacks if initiated beforehand. The game is also prone to crashing, resulting in cutscene loading failures and occasional player disconnections. However, these issues can be mitigated with better equipment.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot offers a nostalgic experience for fans of the franchise, allowing them to relive Goku's story. However, the game's numerous issues overshadow its potential enjoyment. The quests and mechanics lack purpose, and the app lacks technical refinement and user-friendliness. Instead of being entertained, players may find themselves frustrated.
